Upon thaw, permafrost carbon may be mineralized into CO2 or re-sequestered into sediments. The balance between these processes is an important uncertainty in the permafrost-carbon-climate feedback. Warming and wetting in the western Canadian Arctic are accelerating thaw-driven mass wasting by permafrost thaw slumps along headwater streams, increasing particulate organic carbon (POC) delivered to streams by orders of magnitude. This dataset shows changes in oxygen concentrations and organic carbon for incubations assessing the biodegradability of organic carbon released from thaw slumps on the Peel Plateau, NWT. Various other geochemical parameters are also collected for select incubations.
