A retrospective study on Proteus mirabilis bloodstream infections in SESARAM EPERAM Internal Medicine Department from between January 1st 2014 and December 31nd 2019 focusing in the composite endpoint of occurrence of in-hospital death or intensive care unit admission. The sample was composed of 38 cases. Twenty-four were male (63.3%). The mean age was 77.0 years (standard deviation 13.3). Three patients (7.9%) required ICU care. Nine patients died in the hospital (23.7%). Among these, we found a higher proportion of: nursing home residents (66.5% versus 24.1% p = 0.019), alcoholism (44.4% versus 13.8% p = 0.049) and isolation of second bacteria in peripheral blood (44.4% versus 13.8% p = 0.049). As independent predictors of the outcome under study we found alcoholism (odds ratio [OR] 11.8 p = 0.031) and multimicrobial isolation (OR 16.2. P = 0.032).
