The business leaders project involved interviews with 90 chief executive officers or heads of regional subsidiaries (or divisions) of large private companies operating in Brisbane and Melbourne. The respondents' companies were chosen as a stratified sample of local, interstate and multinational companies operating in resource, manufacturing and service industries. The project was based in the school of Humanities at Griffith University and the three principal investigators were; Dr. Malcolm Alexander, Ms Rhondda Nicholas and Dr. James Walter. Computing assistance was provided by Mr. John Houghton. The project was funded by the Australian Research Grants Scheme (A282/15784) the Griffith University Research Committee and the Griffith University School of Humanities Research Sub-Committee. The interviews were conducted by the three investigators during the later part of 1984 and early 1985. The major part of the questionnaire was administered directly but respondents were also asked to fill in and return an annexe giving details of their education, background, employment career and a range of attitude items. Ten respondents declined to complete these annexes and nine of the interviews were pilot interviews. The final data base comprises 71 records therefore. The computer database was constructed using 1022; the database management system available on the DEC 10. It comprises 4 different datasets due to the size limitations of this programme. They are: AINPUT.DMI, BINPUT.DMI, CINPUT.DMI, DINPUT.DMI. These files correspond to the four sections of the original questionnaire. (The annexe is section D). The 1022 programme, TRANS.DMC is also supplied. This converts the four separate files into a single file, MAIN.DMI, with the abbreviations for each variable subsequently from V001 to V604. Topics covered include details of the size of the company; company strategies for the future; corporate planning and management; attitudes towards the business and economic climate of each state; the company personnel structure and assessment of its effectiveness; opinions on industrial relations issues, contact with government and government handling of economic issues, at a state and federal level; involvement with academic and industry organisations; views on economic development in Australia; foreign investment; attitudes to political parties and their leaders; and respondent's personal career advancement. Background variables include income, education, employment history, membership of clubs and associations, birthplace, education level and birthplace of parents, occupation of father, marital status, religion, and number of siblings and own children.
受该程序规模限制,数据库分为4个数据集:AINPUT.DMI、BINPUT.DMI、CINPUT.DMI、DINPUT.DMI,分别对应原始问卷的四个部分(附件为D部分)。
