Two types of experiments were conducted using Bay anchovy (Anchoa mitchilli): In exposure experiments, larvae were exposed to high energy water accommodated fractions (HEWAF) and chemically-enhanced WAF (CEWAF) at two stages of larval development (5 and 21 days post hatch, dph) and numbers of live, dead, and moribund larvae were enumerated. In growth rate experiments, larvae were exposed to low concentrations of CEWAF for 24 hours, grown for 6 days in clean water and then assessed for mortality, and several measures of size (notochord length, total length, dry weight). Samples from the exposure experiments were analyzed for alkane and aromatic hydrocarbons.

本研究以米氏鳀(Anchoa mitchilli)为实验材料,开展两类实验: 在暴露实验中,将幼体于幼体发育的两个阶段(孵化后5天与21天,dph)分别暴露于高能量水包油馏分(HEWAF)与化学强化水包油馏分(CEWAF)中,并对存活、死亡及濒死幼体的数量进行计数。 在生长速率实验中,将幼体暴露于低浓度CEWAF环境中24小时,随后转移至清洁水体中培养6天,之后评估其死亡率,并测定多项体型指标(脊索长度、总长度及干重)。 此外,本研究对暴露实验的样本进行了烷烃与芳香烃类化合物的成分分析。
