The goal of this study was to assess the spatial distribution of soil bacteria in an agricultural context. We compared soil bacterial communities in corn and switchgrass cropping systems across a topographic gradient and two years. In addition, we quantified scale-specific spatial patterning of soil bacterial communities. Because of their important role in biogeochemical cycling, understanding spatial patterning of microbial communities is important for our ability to model carbon and nitrogen cycling.
本研究的核心目标为评估农业生境下土壤细菌的空间分布特征。我们对比了沿地形梯度分布、覆盖两年研究周期的玉米与柳枝稷种植体系中的土壤细菌群落。此外,本研究还量化了土壤细菌群落的尺度特异性空间格局。鉴于微生物群落在生物地球化学循环中发挥的关键作用,解析微生物群落的空间格局,对我们构建碳、氮循环模型的能力具有重要意义。
