This project is to characterize blood transcription of wild African green monkey (AGM) from Chlorocebus aethiops pygerythrus and Chlorocebus aethiops sabaeus subspecies from Africa. These populations are heavily infected with simian immunodeffciency virus (SIV), but despite the massive exposure to SIV a substantial fraction of exposed individuals remain uninfected representing, so called Exposed Seronegative/Uninfected (ESN/EU) cohorts. We aim to identify genomic factors underlying resistance to SIV infection in this species, and apply this knowledge to develop novel theraputical strategies against human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and AIDS.
