Librarians and information workers are faced with the constant challenge of remaining abreast of the developments occurring in the fields of librarianship and information science. Rapid changes in technology and work evolution threaten to make their skills obsolete unless they undertake constant professional development. This is why continuing professional improvement is useful for those who manage and work in library and information services. This paper describes the current situation relating to continuing education for librarians and other information management professionals in Tunisia. The first part begins with a definition of terms used in this paper, provides background information about the programs offered by the Higher Institute of Documentation, and details the educational requirements for librarians and information managers in the Digital Age. The feedback of professional practitioners is also considered. The second part describes the program offered to librarians and information managers at the Higher Institute of Documentation: platform of distance education, courses, learners, tutoring, and evaluation mode. The final part considers librarians’ and information managers’ perceptions of the distance education experience and its benefits for their career. For this, we conducted a questionnaire survey of a group of professionals enrolled in the program.
