This study used qualitative research methods to obtain information about sexual risk behaviors among male and female vocational school students and young male and female migrant workers at an employment market in Kunming, Yunnan. Twenty-three individual and dyad/triad interviews were conducted with youth aged 15 to 24 to understand underlying factors that motivate or discourage HIV high-risk youth activities, as well as motivation for condom use, especially with regard to social support and perceived risk. In addition to questions on risky sexual behavior, this study also examined drug use among youth. The research results will be used to design a one-year youth HIV risk prevention intervention.
