自2004年至今，南海北部海洋观测开放航次由中科院南海海洋研究所负责实施，调查船为“实验3”号科考船，调查海区为南海北部海区及西部局部海区，位于北纬18° 00′N-23° 00′ N，东经 110° 00′E-120° 00′E 及北纬12° 15′N-18° 00′ N，东经110° 30′E-112° 25′E 范围内。
南海北部海洋观测开放航次大面观测温盐数据集包含站位号，经纬度，测量时间，深度，温度和盐度等记录。

Since 2004 up to the present, the open oceanographic cruises for marine observations in the northern South China Sea have been conducted by the South China Sea Institute of Oceanology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, using the research vessel "Experiment 3". The survey areas cover the northern South China Sea and partial western sea areas, within the ranges of 18°00′N–23°00′N, 110°00′E–120°00′E and 12°15′N–18°00′N, 110°30′E–112°25′E.
The synoptic temperature and salinity dataset from the open oceanographic cruises for marine observations in the northern South China Sea includes records such as station number, latitude and longitude, measurement time, depth, temperature and salinity.
