This dataset documents the statistical data on grassland type area and livestock carrying capacity for Qilian County, Qinghai Province, in 1988 and 2012. All data are classified and tallied according to grassland group type codes: for instance, code Ⅰ denotes alpine dry grassland type, Ⅱ denotes mountain dry grassland type, Ⅲ denotes alpine desert type, B denotes medium gramineous group, J denotes shrub group, and so on. The specific meanings of all grassland group type codes are detailed in the document "Instructions for Grassland Group Type Codes of Qinghai Province.pdf" included in this dataset.

The dataset is compiled from the *Statistical Book of Grassland Resources of Qinghai Province* published by the Qinghai Provincial Grassland Station in 1988 and 2012. It comprises three data tables in total:
