Translation (Rita Seng Mai) Once upon a time, there was a family of crows and a family of peafowls. The mother crow and the mother peafowl were best friends. They loved each other. Both of them had one child. They were best friends. Then, the crow was lazy and didn't want to find food. She just ate the peafowl's food without searching for herself. She just ate what the peafowl searched for. She didn't go out to search for food. One day, the peafowl said, "Let's not live together. We both have a child to feed, so we should search for food separately." Then, the crow family lived separately from the peafowl family. While they were looking for food, they encountered each other. They met somewhere in the forest. The peafowl said, "My friend crow, it's already dark here now. Can you give this food to my child?" The crow said, "I don't remember your child." The peafowl said, "The most beautiful bird among other bird species is my child. You will see my child. She is the prettiest and stands out significantly among other birds. Then you can give this food to her." She told the crow to help her. Then, the crow took the food that the peafowl had given for her child and a message that said 'your mother peafowl cannot come back home tonight.' She just carried the food and flew to find the peafowl's child. However, she couldn't find the most beautiful bird no matter how many times she looked. At last, she looked at her own child and found her the most beautiful. So she fed food to her own child. When the peafowl came back, she asked her own child, "Didn't the crow give you food?" The child said, "No." Then she went to the crow and asked her, "Why didn't you give food to my child?" When she asked her the reason why she didn't give food, the crow replied, "You told me to give food to the most beautiful bird. When I looked at all the birds, I found that no bird was more beautiful than my child. My child is so beautiful in my eyes, so I fed it to my child." The peafowl was mad at the crow. Humans are also the same. We think our children are the most beautiful, even if they are not perfect. Even if our own children are not seen as beautiful in other people's eyes, we still see them as the most beautiful.
