Wind speed is significantly higher at 48m due to the distance to the top of the canopy. The Clearing is a small, open area surrounded by forest and some buildings. Station established in 1972. Consists of a Stevenson screen with max/min thermometers and air pressure sensor. 卢茨集水区（Lutz catchment）是巴罗科罗拉多岛上一片面积为9.73公顷的保护流域。卢茨塔（Lutz tower）建于1972年，初始高度为42米，2002年加高至48米。48米高度的观测数据应视为与42米高度的数据相互独立的数据集序列。由于距林冠顶部的高度差异，48米高度处的风速显著更高。
开阔观测场（The Clearing）是一片被森林与少量建筑环绕的小型开阔区域，该观测站建于1972年，内设一座装有最高/最低温度表及气压传感器的史蒂文森百叶箱（Stevenson screen）。温湿度传感器、雨量计及蒸发传感器布设于百叶箱周边的不同点位。
