NRS-1302 | Oyster culture leases files [NSW State Fisheries]

This series consists of files created and used by the Fisheries Branch and later NSW Fisheries between 1920 and 1978.Each file contains information pertaining to a particular lease. The files are numbered by oyster lease number and arranged in lease number order. The numbering of the files (oyster leases) changes in 1936. Up until this time the leases are a given a single number however from 1936 onwards the year followed by a single number is used e.g. 36/299.A card attached to the front of each file records the Oyster lease number, the applicant's name and address and the locality of the lease. Further information recorded on some cards includes the area of the lease and a plan catalogue number.The files contain the original applications to lease Crown lands for purposes of oyster culture, plans of oyster lease areas including information about and drawings of the body of water and the area being leased, reports of inspection of land proposed for lease, Gazettal notice of the lease, proclamations, deeds, written and typed requests from leaseholders. Information on extension of lease periods, and other necessary correspondence and oyster lease information can also be found on these files.
