This bacterium was isolated from the aerobic bioreactor of a wastewater treatment plant (TRARGISA - Waste and Wastewater Treatment System of Girona S.A.), specifically from the point where it interfaces with the recirculation stream from the anaerobic bioreactor. The mixed liquor sludge sample was used as inoculum for methanotrophic enrichment, using a modified NMS medium (as described in doi.org/10.1016/j.bej.2018.01.003) with methane as the sole carbon source (20% v/v). After a 10-month enrichment period, samples were cultured on mod-NMS medium agar plates in a methane-enriched atmosphere. Subsequently, single colonies were isolated and purified through successive plating.
