The Archipielago de Colon (Galápagos Islands), also known as the Galápagos Islands, is located approximately 1,000 km west of mainland Ecuador, near the equator in the Pacific Ocean off the western coast of South America, with geographic coordinates ranging from 92°0′32″W to 89°14′28″W longitude and 1°24′42″S to 1°40′54″N latitude. The archipelago consists of a series of volcanic islands, including a total of 186 islands, islets and reefs with an area larger than 40 square meters. Among them, 7 islands have an area larger than 100 square kilometers, and 18 islands cover an area of more than 1 square kilometer. The total land area of the archipelago is 8010.19 square kilometers, with a total coastline length of 1819.92 kilometers. The largest island is Isabela (Albemarle) Island, with an area of 4716.62 square kilometers.

The Galápagos Islands belong to Ecuador's Galápagos Province, whose provincial capital is Puerto Baquerizo Moreno. The province is divided into 3 Cantons:
1. Isabela Canton includes: Darwin (Culpepper) Island, Fernandina (Narborough) Island (formerly known as Narborough Island), Isabela (Albemarle) Island, and Wolf (Wenman) Island.
2. San Cristóbal Canton includes: Española (Hood) Island, Floreana (Charles or Santa María) Island, Genovesa Island, San Cristóbal Island, and Barrington Island.
