The FAO has developed a monitoring system in 26 food crisis countries to better understand the impacts of various shocks on agricultural livelihoods, food security and local value chains. The Monitoring System consists of primary data collected from households on a periodic basis (more or less every four months, depending on seasonality). The FAO launched a household survey in the Sudan through the Data in Emergencies Monitoring (DIEM-Monitoring) System to monitor agricultural livelihoods and food security. Data were conducted through face-to-face surveys in ten of eighteen states in the Sudan and included: Central Darfur, Gadaref, Gazira, Kassala, North Darfur, North Kordofan, South Darfur, South Kordofan, West Darfur and White Nile. A total of 2 320 households were surveyed between 5 and 19 September 2022.
