THE DISTINCTIVE CHARACTERISTICS OF ENGLISH VOWEL PHONEMES

This article examines the distinctive characteristics of English vowel phonemes from the perspective of articulatory phonetics. The study focuses on the theoretical foundations of phonetics and phonology, emphasizing the relationship between speech sounds, phonemes, and meaning in spoken English. Particular attention is given to the physiological mechanisms involved in sound production, including the role of the vocal cords and articulatory organs such as the tongue, lips, palate, and jaw.本文从发音语音学（Articulatory Phonetics）的视角，探讨英语元音音素的显著特征。本研究聚焦语音学与音系学的理论基础，着重阐释英语口语中语音、音素与语义之间的内在关联。研究尤为关注语音产生所涉及的生理机制，涵盖声带以及舌、唇、腭、下颌等各类发音器官的功能作用。
