Ant nest and foraging box images

This series of images show 21 small nests of Lasius niger ants, which have been provided with coloured sugar solution and coloured protein gel. One picture is taken of the entire foraging box every week for two months. To take the picture, an opaque covering is briefly removed from the nest (c. 3 seconds) and then replaced.
