Predicting the Location of Hominin Sites in Africa and Asia

Predicting the Location of Hominin Sites in Africa and Asia is the result of a project which aimed to formulate a method of predicting locations where well-preserved palaeolithic archaeological sites might be found. It consists of a database collated from information available in the literature with all of the data georeferenced. Using GIS the dataset has been used to assess the relationship between bone collagen preservation and the location of archaeological sites within Africa and Asia. The database of sites may be searched on-line to retrieve information on location, dating, lithics, and hominid and faunal remains. An on-line GIS allows the sites to be examined geographically. The GIS files are available for download so that users can examine the data in more detail using their own GIS application.
