NRS-21493 | Registers of surgical operations - Casualty [Balmain Hospital]

These are registers of surgical procedures carried out in the casualty (later accident and emergency) department at Balmain Hospital. 24 hour casualty services were introduced at the hospital in 1924. (1)The volumes record the following information: date, name, age, sex, operation, anaesthetic and surgeon. The volumes relate, overwhelmingly, to what are tallied as "minor" operations. Only a very small number of operations classed as "major" are listed. These may be identified by the presence of a surname in the anaesthetist column.Endnote1.
