硅藻是目前的主要海洋浮游生物之一,贡献了地球上每年原初生产力的四分之一左右,这与硅藻的PSII的蓝绿光捕获能力和快速光适应能力密切相关,硅藻的PSII-FCPII超级色素蛋白复合体由两个PSII-FCPII单体组成,硅藻PSII-FCPII整体空间结构的解析对深入了解硅藻的捕光和光保护机制,以及研究光合生物的进化也具有重要意义。本研究利用单颗粒冷冻电镜技术解析了一种中心纲硅藻 (Chaetoceros gracilis)的PSII-FCPII超级复合体的3.0 Å分辨率的三维结构。数据集大小约为160 MB。

Diatoms are one of the dominant marine phytoplankton today, contributing approximately one-quarter of the annual primary productivity on Earth. This is closely related to the blue-green light harvesting capacity and rapid light acclimation ability of diatom PSII. The PSII-FCPII super pigment-protein complex of diatoms consists of two PSII-FCPII monomers. Elucidation of the overall spatial structure of diatom PSII-FCPII is of great significance for in-depth understanding of the light harvesting and photoprotection mechanisms of diatoms, as well as for studies on the evolution of photosynthetic organisms. In this study, we resolved the 3.0 Å-resolution three-dimensional structure of the PSII-FCPII supercomplex from a centric diatom (Chaetoceros gracilis) using single-particle cryo-electron microscopy. The dataset size is approximately 160 MB.
