Orality in playback theatre: a discourse analysis

A story from a playback theatre performance and the enactment of the same story is analysed using James P. Gee's discourse characteristics and Walter J. Ong's orality formulae. The analysis is done by breaking up the story into words and lines to which a discourse characteristics and orality formulae is allocated. This analysis is placed in a table form to indicate how many times a particular characteristic or marker occurs. In this way the most regular occurrences of the markers or formulae can be determined numerically.The analysis of the narrated story and its' performance is done separately then compared to bring to light the possible discrepancies between the story and the enactment. All names in the story and enactment were changed for ethical reasons.

本数据集以一场回放剧场（playback theatre）演出中的故事及其同内容演绎版为研究对象，采用詹姆斯·P·吉（James P. Gee）的话语特征（discourse characteristics）与沃尔特·J·翁（Walter J. Ong）的口语性公式（orality formulae）开展分析。分析过程通过将故事拆解为词汇与台词单元，并为各单元赋予对应的话语特征与口语性公式完成。该分析结果将以表格形式呈现，用以展示各类特征或标记项（marker）的出现频次。借此可通过量化方式确定标记项或公式的高频出现模式。本研究先分别对叙事文本及其剧场演绎展开独立分析，随后将二者进行对比，以揭示叙事文本与演绎版之间可能存在的差异。出于伦理考量，叙事文本与演绎版中的所有姓名均已做匿名化替换处理。
