Itasca Biological Station Lake Ice Cover Data

Established in 1907, the Itasca Biological Station and Laboratories is a field station focused on conducting and promoting biological and ecological research. Part of this mission consists of long-term ecological monitoring efforts taken on by station staff. This dataset is one of such long-term efforts. Station staff tracked and recorded dates when lakes completely froze each winter (ice on, recorded when >99% of the lake was covered) as well as when they completely thawed each spring (ice off, recorded when >99% of the lake was open). Monitoring focused on Lake Itasca, with several other lakes in the region being added as various staff became associated with the Itasca Station.

艾塔斯卡生物站及实验室（Itasca Biological Station and Laboratories）始建于1907年，是一家致力于开展并推动生物学与生态学研究的野外台站。其核心使命之一涵盖站内工作人员实施的长期生态监测工作，本数据集即属于此类长期监测项目的成果之一。站内工作人员追踪并记录了各湖泊每年冬季完全封冻的日期（ice on，以湖泊99%以上面积被冰面覆盖为记录标准），以及每年春季完全解冻的日期（ice off，以湖泊99%以上面积无冰开放为记录标准）。监测工作最初以艾塔斯卡湖为核心监测对象，后续随着不同科研人员加入艾塔斯卡生物站，该区域内的其他数个湖泊也被陆续纳入监测范围。
