Methane oversaturation in oxygenated surface waters is a commonly observed phenomenon in freshwater lakes (="methane paradox"). Yet, seasonal variations and the biological drivers involved in the formation of the methane paradox in freshwater lakes are poorly understood. In this study, we investigated seasonal methane dynamics in oxic surface waters of two Austrian peri-Alpine lakes which differ in their trophic state. We further explored the relationships between subsurface methane inventories and biological parameters during four different seasons. Sequencing was performed at the Joint Microbiome Facility of the Medical University of Vienna and the University of Vienna under the project IDs JMF-2408-03, JMF-2509-06, and JMF-2511-19.
含氧表层水体中的甲烷过饱和现象是淡水湖泊中常见观测现象,即‘甲烷悖论(methane paradox)’。然而,学界对淡水湖泊中甲烷悖论形成的季节变化及其涉及的生物驱动因子仍知之甚少。本研究针对两座营养状态存在差异的奥地利阿尔卑斯山麓湖泊的含氧表层水体,开展了甲烷季节动态的调查分析,并进一步探索了四个不同季节下下层水体甲烷储量与生物学参数之间的关联。测序工作由维也纳医科大学与维也纳大学联合微生物组平台完成,相关项目编号为JMF-2408-03、JMF-2509-06及JMF-2511-19。
