Digital Archive from an Archaeological Evaluation and Excavation at M11 Junction 7A, Gilden Way, Harlow, Essex, 2020

This collection consists of images, spreadsheets, databases and GIS data from an archaeological evaluation and excavation by Cotswold Archaeology. Work occurred at M11 Junction 7A, Gilden Way, Harlow, Essex in 2020.

In June 2020, Cotswold Archaeology carried out an archaeological evaluation of land within the permanent and temporary boundaries of the M11 Junction 7a Scheme, at Harlow, Essex. A total of 124 trenches were excavated. Trial trenching revealed remnants of Early Bronze Age (2400-1500 BC) ritual monuments comprising two ring-ditch features. Subsequent excavation was undertaken by Cotswold Archaeology between July and October 2020 at the request of GRAHAM Construction Limited (on behalf of Essex County Council). An area of 2.5ha was excavated within the site. The programme of archaeological investigation across six areas (1-6) produced evidence of multi-period activity including Middle Bronze Age barrow ditches and adjacent Late Bronze Age trackways, an Iron Age unenclosed settlement, and Roman cremation burials.
