Dataset for: Entomological collection database for potato and sweetpotato at CIP

The Entomological Collection of the International Potato Center (CIP) houses insects mainly related to potato and sweet potato crops. Peru is the center of origin of the potato and secondary center of genetic diversity of sweet potato, consequently possess the greatest diversity of species pests and natural enemies related to these crops. Our entomological collection has more than 9000 records in our online catalog that correspond to more than 48000 specimens collected since 1947. These specimens come from 26 countries in America, Europe, Asia and Africa; which constitutes the largest entomological collection in potato and sweet potato in the World. The collection of insects is a way to register, conserve and disseminate scientific knowledge about the great insect diversity in potato and sweet potato ecosystems. 国际马铃薯中心（International Potato Center, CIP）的昆虫标本馆藏，主要收纳与马铃薯、甘薯作物相关的昆虫类群。秘鲁是马铃薯的起源中心，同时也是甘薯的遗传多样性次生中心，因此拥有与这两类作物相关的最为丰富的害虫及天敌物种多样性。本昆虫标本馆藏的在线目录中现有超过9000条记录，对应1947年以来采集的48000余件标本。这些标本采自美洲、欧洲、亚洲及非洲的26个国家，是全球规模最大的马铃薯与甘薯相关昆虫标本馆藏。昆虫标本馆藏是记录、保护并传播马铃薯与甘薯生态系统中丰富昆虫多样性科学知识的重要载体。目前该馆藏被越来越多的科研人员、学生及农户所使用，如今可通过本中心官方网站便捷开展检索查询。
