Waterborne microplastic characteristics and abundance sampled in the Gulf of Maine in July 2013 using nets of different mesh-size (100, 333 and 500 µm).

Microplastic debris was collected via surface trawls in 9 different locations within the Gulf of Maine, using 100, 333 and 500 µm nets onboard RV American Promise in July 2013. Data includes sampling metadata, protocols, microplastic abundance, type and polymer. These data are described and analysed in Lindeque <em>et al.</em> (2020; DOI:10.1016/j.envpol.2020.114721)
