Transforming Interaction: The Behavioral Effects of Communication Technology in Online Gaming

The rapid advancement of communication technology has transformed interactions within online gaming environments. This study investigates the behavioral effects of communication technology in online gaming, focusing on how it shapes social interactions, player engagement, and potential addictive behaviors. Data were collected from 427 respondents, with the majority residing in Jakarta, followed by other major cities such as Bandung, Surabaya, and Medan. A stratified random sampling method was used to ensure diverse representation. The study employed structural equation modeling (SEM) to analyze the relationships between key variables. The results indicate that enhanced communication technology fosters stronger social bonds among players, improving teamwork and collaboration . However, excessive reliance on online gaming communication is associated with increased gaming addiction tendencies, particularly among younger players. Additionally, behavioral traces were found to be predictive of social interaction quality, supporting prior research on affiliation recognition in gaming environments. These findings highlight the dual nature of communication technology in online gaming, offering both social benefits and potential risks. The study contributes to the ongoing discourse on digital interaction and gaming behavior, emphasizing the need for balanced gaming habits to mitigate addiction risks

通信技术的迅猛发展重塑了在线游戏环境中的人际互动格局。本研究围绕通信技术在在线游戏场景中的行为效应展开探究,重点剖析其对社交互动、玩家参与度及潜在成瘾行为的塑造机制。本次研究共回收427份有效问卷,受访者大多居住于雅加达,其余样本来自万隆、泗水、棉兰等印尼主要城市。研究采用分层随机抽样法以保障样本的多样性与代表性。本研究运用结构方程模型(Structural Equation Modeling,SEM)对核心变量间的关联进行分析。研究结果显示,更完善的通信技术可强化玩家间的社会联结,提升团队协作与协同水平。然而,过度依赖在线游戏中的通信渠道则会加剧游戏成瘾倾向,这一关联在年轻玩家群体中尤为显著。此外,行为痕迹可有效预测社交互动质量,该发现佐证了此前关于游戏场景中归属识别的相关研究成果。上述研究结果凸显了在线游戏中通信技术的双重属性:其既能带来积极的社交增益,也潜藏着一定的潜在风险。本研究为当前数字互动与游戏行为领域的学术讨论提供了新的视角,同时强调了养成均衡游戏习惯以降低成瘾风险的重要性。
