VPRS 9954 Outward Letter Books (Staff Training Section)

This series comprises volumes containing copies of outward letters from the Training Section of the Public Service Board. The outward letter book, called the Yellow Book was set up circa 1965 to contain copies of reports to the Board. It served as a quick reference for the Chief Training Officer when queries were received from the Secretary or the Board members. The scope of the Yellow Book was extended in the 1970s to include copies of all outward correspondence. The creation of these books ceased in 1980.The Boards training function encompassed the following activities:Provision of a series of central training courses;Assistance with departmental training programmes by participation in the preparation and planning of training activities;Administration of schemes of assistance to students by way of awards and study leave policy determined by the Board;Investigation of new equipment and methods of training and other means of staff development.This series documents the activities of the Training Section of the Board.The letters relate to various courses conducted by the Board, including an Orientation Course, Induction Course for graduates recruited under the Boards Administration Division Graduate Recruitment Scheme, a Residential Supervision Course for country based officers, the Management Conferences, and Regional Study Group (RSG) meetings, External Training and attendance of courses at the Australian Administrative Staff College, at Melbourne University, and at the University of New South Wales, Award of Harkness Fellowship, and Public Service Full-time Study Awards Scheme, etc..
