Current Questions on Climate Protection (July 2024)

The short survey on climate protection was conducted by Verian on behalf of the Press and Information Office of the Federal Government. In the survey period from 10.07.2024 to 16.07.2024, the German-speaking population aged 14 and over in private households was asked about climate policy in telephone interviews (CATI). This edition focuses on questions about natural disasters, especially flooding. Respondents were selected using a multi-stage random sample as part of a multi-topic survey including landline and mobile phone numbers (dual-frame sample).<br>Concerns about possible consequences of climate change; estimated extent to which different groups of people are affected by the possible consequences of climate change (personally, population in Germany, population worldwide); assessment of current political measures to protect the climate (appropriate, go too far or do not go far enough); opinion on the conversion of a large parking lot into a green area as a seepage area in heavy rain; concerns about the occurrence of various disasters in their own region (floods, forest fires, storms/tornadoes, earthquakes, new pathogens/pandemics, terrorist attacks, chemical or reactor accidents and power outages lasting several days); opinion on the introduction of compulsory insurance for homeowners against damage caused by natural forces (natural hazard insurance); opinion on new buildings in flood areas; ownership of residential property (house or condominium); ownership of insurance against damage caused by natural forces; damage caused by natural forces to own home.

Demography: sex; age; education; occupation; household size; number of people in the household aged 14 and over; party preference; voting eligibility; net household income; survey via mobile or landline.

Additionally coded: consecutive respondent number; weighting factor; interview date; location size (BIK location size and political location size); federal state; survey area west/east.
