Study of sarcopenia in human muscle biopsies of elderly individuals, Hertfordshire Sarcopenia Study

Purpose: The main goal of this study is to compare skeletal muscle transcriptome profilings derived from sarcopenic versus healthy subjects. Methods: We use high coverage RNA sequencing of human skeletal muscle biopsies to analyze genome-wide transcriptional changes in human sarcopenia benchmarked to healthy elderly controls. Overall design: 28 muscle biopsies from healthy subjects, 4 muscle biopsies from sarcopenic subjects, 5 muscle biopsies from subjects with only low muscle mass, 3 muscle biopsies from subjects with only low muscle strength or low muscle function.

研究目的：本研究的核心目标为对比肌少症（Sarcopenia）受试者与健康受试者的骨骼肌转录组谱。
研究方法：本研究采用高覆盖度RNA测序技术对人类骨骼肌活检样本进行检测，以健康老年对照为参照，分析人类肌少症患者的全基因组转录水平变化。
实验设计：本研究共纳入28份健康受试者的骨骼肌活检样本、4份肌少症受试者的骨骼肌活检样本、5份仅存在肌肉量减少的受试者的骨骼肌活检样本，以及3份仅存在肌肉力量降低或肌肉功能下降的受试者的骨骼肌活检样本。
