A coastal air-sea buoy in the southern Senegalese upwelling: the first two years of Melax data (2015 - 2016)

Coastal moored air-sea buoys offer powerful platform for multidisciplinary monitoring of a constantly evolving marine environment and ecosystem. They deliver observations in regions where satellites are generally blind or strongly biased. The Melax buoy was deployed off Dakar (Senegal 14°20.8'N-17°13.68'W), in February 2015. Located over the continental shelf, in 35 meter depth, it measures at very high frequency key quantities of sea level atmosphere, such as wind, radiative fluxes, temperature, humidity, pressure and rainfall, and, in the water column, temperature and current over the whole depth interval, punctual salinity and dissolved oxygen.
