Desertification refers to land degradation characterized primarily by wind-sand activities, which occurs in arid, semi-arid and some semi-humid regions of northern China due to the uncoordinated human-land relationship. Data source: Compiled and drawn by the Institute of Glaciology, Frozen Soil and Desert Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences, in collaboration with the Institute of Geography, Chinese Academy of Sciences. The 1:2,000,000 scale desert map was developed based on aerial photographs from the 1970s combined with field surveys, and the national boundary of China on this map is based on the 1:4,000,000 scale *People's Republic of China...* published by China Cartographic Publishing House in 1971.
