This strain grows well on CM0033 medium at 25–37°C and is aerobic, making it suitable for research and production purposes. It can be preserved using vacuum freeze-drying. The cells are straight rods, with coccoid and irregular degenerative forms; filaments and spheroplasts are frequently observed under certain conditions. It rapidly ferments glucose to produce acid, and yields acid slowly and irregularly from fructose, galactose and glycerol. The optimal growth temperature is 25–37°C. This strain produces glucose isomerase with an activity of 130 U, and is utilized for the production of glucose isomerase.
