Among the species of the Acinetobacter genus, Acinetobacter baumanni is the most commonly found from biological samples. Initially, A. baumanni was classified as a low virulence pathogen, however, research has shown its high infectious capacity than previously reported, making it a critical clinical problem due to the limited therapeutic options for treatment of infections. Furthermore, it has presented potential environmental risk, subject to anthropogenic pressure such as wastewater and effluent systems, facilitating the dispose of high multiresistant bacterial loads into the environment, making it difficult to predict the destination they are discharged.

在不动杆菌属（Acinetobacter）的各类菌种中，鲍曼不动杆菌（Acinetobacter baumanni）是临床生物样本中检出频率最高的菌种。最初，鲍曼不动杆菌被划分为低致病力病原体，但后续研究证实其感染能力远超此前报道水平，且临床抗感染治疗的可选方案极为有限，使其成为亟待攻克的重大临床问题。此外，该菌还存在潜在的环境传播风险：在废水、污水排放系统等人为活动压力的影响下，携带多重耐药性的鲍曼不动杆菌可被大量释放至自然环境中，其最终排放去向难以预测。
