Social science methods are not only useful to understand the public, they can also be used to better understand expert perspectives. We illustrate the views of 46 PFAS experts from recent a ZeroPM (Zero Pollution of Persistent, Mobile Substances; https://zeropm.eu) workshop on methods to prevent PFAS pollution[1]. Following a detailed literature review and discussion with key experts in the ZeroPM project we developed a short survey that experts could complete during the workshop. Workshop participants included members of the ZeroPM consortium, and individuals from the wider academic, political and industry fields.
[1] Average EUC ratings (SD) were collected from the ZeroPM Prevention Workshop held in Gothenburg, Sweden in February, 2023 (Male = 20; Female = 19; Prefer not to say = 7). The majority of these experts reported belonging to purely the Academic sector (N = 20), while the rest came from Regulation, the Water sector, the Chemical sector, NGOs or Other backgrounds.
