One of four NRM regions, the Arid Lands is an area of low population density and is the region with the highest concentration of Aboriginal freehold land in the NT. The highest priority threats to ecosystem health include feral species (primarily camels, rabbits, cats, fox), invasive species (Athel pine, Buffel grass) and climate change - particularly its effect on sensitive sites with unique microclimates. In addressing these regional priorities, it is essential to not only build community (including indigenous) capacity for on-ground actions but to develop and share a comprehensive knowledge base for all NRM participants.
