Hunting season for Intermediate Polars previously misclassified as Dwarf Novae
收藏资源简介:
In XMM/AO18, we embarked on a project to reveal previously unrecognized magneticCVs, based on common (though not universal) optical fingerprints. This has ledto the successful discovery of a low luminosity intermediate polar (LLIP), whichwe are continuing in our AO20 program. In this proposal, we request fullfillobservation of a sample of supposed dwarf novae with high Fx/Fopt ratios andhigh Xray luminosity, making them excellent candidates to be previouslyunrecognized LLIPs. If many of our targets are confirmed as LLIPs, their spacedensity may be comparable to, or higher than, typical intermediate polars (IPs)that are more Xray luminous. LLIPs may well be the missing links in theevolution of magnetic white dwarfs in interacting binaries. truncated!, Please see actual data for full text [truncated!, Please see actual data for full text]
