We determined the factors associated with vertical transmission of HIV in Harare. We conducted a 1:2 unmatched case-control study. We interviewed 62 mother-baby pair cases, in which vertical transmission occurred, and randomly selected 124 health facility mother-baby pair controls, where vertical transmission did not occur. Vertical transmission was high among babies whose mothers were diagnosed of HIV after conception and those who did not adhere to treatment. This study highlights key intervention points in the acceleration of pediatric HIV elimination. We therefore recommend intensifying health promotion on pre-partum testing for HIV, importance of adhering to treatment and strengthening of treatment support groups.

本研究旨在明确哈拉雷地区与人类免疫缺陷病毒（HIV）垂直传播（vertical transmission）相关的影响因素。本研究采用1:2非匹配病例对照研究设计，共访谈了62例发生HIV垂直传播的母婴对作为病例组，并从医疗机构中随机选取124例未发生HIV垂直传播的母婴对作为对照组。研究结果显示，母亲在受孕后确诊HIV感染，以及母亲未坚持治疗的婴儿，其HIV垂直传播发生率较高。本研究明确了加速儿童HIV消除工作的关键干预靶点，因此建议加强HIV产前检测的健康宣教、强调坚持治疗的重要性，并强化治疗支持小组建设。
