Facultative anaerobic, Gram-positive and rod-shaped, Bacillus cereus is a common bacterium that we encounter during episodes of food poisoning. The bacterium is a common inhabitant of soil and water. From a food safety perspective, B. cereus is a serious microbial threat given its ability to form endospore, which makes its eradication during food processing a top priority. Besides sporulation ability, B. cereus also packs another microbial weapon, cereolysin, which is a virulence factor important to pathogenesis. This work sought to illuminate the genetic repertoire of this important food pathogen by parsing the annotated genome sequence of B. cereus ATCC 14579 obtained from Genbank. Comprising gene name, gene function and gene sequence of all genes in the genome of B. cereus, the resource should be useful in molecular cloning work or genome editing research seeking to understand the functions of individual genes in this important endospore forming pathogen.
