OpenIFS Simulations of North Atlantic Cyclones: Demonstrating CLIO Software Capabilities

This dataset contains short-range OpenIFS simulations of high-impact cyclones in the North Atlantic basin, initialised using CLIO (CLimate data Input for OpenIFS), a new software tool for OpenIFS initialisation. The simulations explore the impact of different initialisation sources and model resolutions on the representation of the selected cyclone: Tier 1 simulations: Initialised with EC-Earth3 (historical experiment, r1i1p1f1 ensemble member) at various horizontal resolutions (91 model levels). Tier 2 simulations: Initialised with MPI-ESM1-2-HR (ssp5-8.5 experiment, r1i1p1f1 ensemble member) at TL639 spectral resolution (91 and 137 model levels). Tier 3 simulations: Initialised with ERA5 pressure level data (37 levels) at TL639 and TL1279 spectral resolutions (91 and 137 model levels, respectively).
