Duodenal and fecal microbiome of urban and peri-urban coyotes near Edmonton, AB. gut metagenome

The purpose of this study was to (1) characterize the coyote microbiome in the context of host health and parasite burden and (2) determine if and how the microbiome changes in coyotes exploiting urban habitat. We used a sample of 76 coyotes killed for other reasons near Edmonton, AB, Canada, and collected both duodenal and fecal samples for microbiome analysis. We used stomach contents and stable isotopes to evaluate diet, and data taken at necropsy to evaluate animal physiology.

本研究的目的在于：(1) 以宿主健康与寄生虫负荷为研究背景，对郊狼（coyote）的微生物组（microbiome）进行表征分析；(2) 探究利用城市栖息地的郊狼其微生物组是否发生变化，以及具体的变化模式。我们选取加拿大阿尔伯塔省埃德蒙顿附近因其他原因被捕杀的76只郊狼作为研究样本，采集其十二指肠与粪便样本用于微生物组分析。此外，我们通过胃容物与稳定同位素技术评估郊狼的饮食结构，并利用尸检获取的相关数据分析其生理状态。
