Endodontic treatment failures pose a considerable clinical challenge, largely due to persistent microbial infections. In this study, shotgun metagenomics was utilized to profile the microbial communities in 14 endodontic infection cases-comprising 7 primary and 7 post-treatment infections-and to explore potential links with systemic comorbidities. DNA from clinical specimens was sequenced using the Illumina NovaSeq X platform, and data were analyzed using robust bioinformatics pipelines.
