Study and Maintenance of Wood, Plant and Insect Collection of Taiwan Forestry Research Institute

(1) Collect literatures dealing with domestic and imported wood materials and the specimens. The information gathered will further be input into computer files, including gross features under hand lens, physical properties, processing properties, and uses of the wood. The information will also be classified as computer data bank for industrial applications, in an attempt to serve the wood industry to find the proper wood for a proper use. The effort should help the industry to be competitive in the market and enhance the product quality. (2) To collect the wood specimens from the experimental forest and to exchange specimens among wood using organizations will also be conducted. (3) The project will further make color atlas of commercial wood concerning wood gross feature for needed people in wood using industry. (4) Finally, as mentioned above, the entire information package will be uploaded to our computer web site for references. (5) To increase the quality and quantity of the specimens. (6) Routine work of herbarium includes specimens collection, sterilization and mounting. (7) Specimens will exchange with other herbarium. (8) The database of our insect collection has been established. However, the current database requires a much more powerful server. In addition, the image database requires high-resolution, digitized photo equipment. Therefore, we propose to order these equipments in order to provide a better information service. (9) We expect to add at least 5,000 digitized files to our database. (10) The specimen exchange program with other museums and research institutes will also be continued.

(1) 收集涉及国产与进口木材材料及其标本的相关文献。将采集到的信息录入计算机文件，包括通过手持放大镜（hand lens）观察到的木材宏观特征（gross features）、物理性能、加工性能及用途。同时将上述信息归类构建计算机数据库以供工业应用，旨在助力木材行业为特定用途选配适配的木材，提升行业市场竞争力与产品质量。
(2) 从实验林场采集木材标本，并推进木材使用机构间的标本交换工作。
(3) 本项目还将编制面向木材工业从业者的商用木材宏观特征彩色图册。
(4) 如前文所述，全套信息资料将上传至本单位计算机网站以供参考查阅。
(5) 提升标本的采集质量与数量。
(6) 标本馆（herbarium）的日常工作包括标本采集、灭菌处理与标本装裱。
(7) 与其他标本馆开展标本交换业务。
(8) 本单位的昆虫标本馆藏数据库已建成，但当前数据库亟需性能更强的服务器支持。此外，图像数据库需配备高分辨率数字化摄影设备（high-resolution, digitized photo equipment），因此我们申请采购相关设备以提供更优质的信息服务。
(9) 我们计划为数据库新增至少5000个数字化文件（digitized files）。
(10) 与其他博物馆及科研机构的标本交换项目将持续推进。
