This dataset contains genetic analysis data for research on the population structure and historical population dynamics of South American sea lions (Otaria flavescens). It includes mitochondrial hypervariable region (281 bp) and 22 microsatellite genotyping data from 259 individuals across 23 colonies in the Falkland Islands, as well as mitochondrial sequence comparison data with populations from Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Peru. This dataset is designed to explore the causes of the catastrophic decline of the Falkland Islands population and the geographic population structure of the species.
