This project characterizes and further models the dynamics of a novel semi-active rotary friction damper. The presented work may serve as a baseline for achieving semi-active control of the analyzed damper. This project is unique in that it is the first to describe semi-active operating characteristics of a previously introduced device. The audience of this work is the natural hazards engineering community and those studying semi-active friction dampers.
