The purpose was to evaluate the effect of different DNA extraction methods on microbial community profiles generated using 16S pyrosequencing - this approach was applied to both a mock community of known composition and pediatric bronchoalveolar lavage samples. 16S amplicon sequences from pediatric BAL samples and mock community: 3 pediatric BAL samples (2 from CF patients, and 1 from a non-CF patient) and a simulated mock BAL sample.
