Thaw pond metagenomes

Samples were collected in August 2014 from Kuujjuarapik-Whapmagoostui, an area located close to the Hudson Bay shore in subarctic Canada. The study site has sporadic permafrost (covering < 10% of the total area) and consists of a palsa bog called SAS2. As the palsas thaw, ponds first emerge around the palsa, and in the subsequent phase, the pond replaces the palsa with depths that can reach up to 2m (at the SAS2 site).

本数据集样本采集于2014年8月，采集地点为加拿大亚北极地区哈得逊湾（Hudson Bay）沿岸的库朱阿鲁皮克-瓦普马古斯特伊（Kuujjuarapik-Whapmagoostui）。该研究区域分布有岛状多年冻土（sporadic permafrost），其覆盖总面积不足研究区的10%，区域内包含一处命名为SAS2的冰核丘沼泽（palsa bog）。随着冰核丘解冻，其周边会率先形成水塘；在后续演化阶段，水塘将取代冰核丘，在SAS2站点处水深可达2米。
