Microbial Dark Matter project: Applying single-cell genomics, we targeted and sequenced uncultivated archaeal and bacterial cells from nine diverse habitats belonging to 28 major uncharted branches of the tree of life. With this genomic information, we could resolve numerous intra- and inter-phylum level relationships and discovered unexpected metabolic features that extend our understanding of biology and challenge established boundaries between the three domains of life.
微生物暗物质(Microbial Dark Matter)研究项目:本研究采用单细胞基因组学(single-cell genomics)技术,对来自九种不同生境的未培养古菌与细菌细胞开展靶向测序,这些细胞隶属于生命之树的28个主要未探明分支。依托本次获得的基因组数据,我们阐明了大量门类内及门类间的演化关系,同时发现了诸多意想不到的代谢特征——这些特征既拓展了我们对生物学的认知,也挑战了生命三大域之间既定的分类边界。
