Alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.) is one of the most important and widely cultivated forage crops in the worldwide. In recent years, with the rapid progress of high-throughput sequencing technology and the reduction of sequencing costs, bulk data from alfalfa resequencing projects have been compiled and can be applied for population genetics, although an abundance of resequencing data is available in public, there is still a lack of a comprehensive tool to exhibit the results of genomic variations and genome-wide association study (GWAS). In this study, in order to facilitate access to alfalfa data, we developed the first comprehensive database dedicated to alfalfa, the alfalfa genomic variation database (MsGVD, http://www.genehub.com.cn/msgvd.html), within this platform, including 221 distinct alfalfa germplasm accessions and 2,404,340 SNPs, users can access annotated information regarding single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and insertions/deletions (InDels), and display results through through linkage disequilibrium heatmap, SNP distribution, phylogenetic trees, haplotype networks, geographical maps, and more. We recommend this database in order to accelerate the molecular breeding process of alfalfa, and we will continue to update the database to add more data and features.

紫花苜蓿(Medicago sativa L.)是全球范围内最重要且种植最广泛的饲用作物之一。近年来,随着高通量测序技术的飞速发展与测序成本的持续降低,大量紫花苜蓿重测序项目产生的批量数据已被整合,可应用于群体遗传学研究;尽管公共数据库中已积累了丰富的重测序数据,但目前仍缺乏一款能够全面展示基因组变异与全基因组关联分析(Genome-Wide Association Study, GWAS)结果的综合工具。为方便科研人员获取紫花苜蓿相关数据,我们构建了全球首个专注于紫花苜蓿的综合数据库——紫花苜蓿基因组变异数据库(MsGVD,http://www.genehub.com.cn/msgvd.html)。该平台涵盖221份不同的紫花苜蓿种质资源与2,404,340个单核苷酸多态性(Single Nucleotide Polymorphism, SNPs)位点,用户可查询单核苷酸多态性与插入缺失(Insertions/Deletions, InDels)的注释信息,并通过连锁不平衡热图、SNP位点分布、系统发育树、单倍型网络、地理分布图等多种方式展示分析结果。本数据库旨在加速紫花苜蓿的分子育种进程,后续我们还将持续更新数据库,补充更多数据与功能模块。
